Snoring, Gasping, Exhausted All Day?
Discover a Quiet, Comfortable Dental Alternative That Many Patients Actually Use

If your night looks like this:

  • Your partner nudges you because you’re snoring like a freight train…
  • You wake up choking or gasping…
  • You drag yourself through the day tired, foggy, and irritable…

…yet your CPAP machine sits in the corner collecting dust because you can’t stand the mask… maybe you are too embarrassed to even try the mask

You’re not alone – and you’re not stuck.

At Serenity Smile Designs, we offer custom oral appliances – small, comfortable devices (basically a medical mouth guard) that help keep your airway open while you sleep. No hoses. No straps. No noisy machine by the bed.

Just quieter nights, more refreshing sleep, and a solution you’re far more likely to actually use.

Why Treat Sleep Apnea at All?

Sleep apnea is more than “just snoring.” When you repeatedly stop breathing during sleep, your body and brain get less oxygen. Over time, untreated sleep apnea is associated with increased risks for:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart problems
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Daytime accidents and reduced quality of life
  • Dementia
  • ADD
  • Weight gain

The good news: effective treatment can improve your sleep and may help lower these risks. Your energy, mood, focus, and relationships can all benefit when you finally start sleeping properly again.

Why a Dentist for Sleep Apnea?

Because your airway, jaw position, and teeth all play a role. The two most common signs are snoring and grinding you teeth so your dentist is often the first to notice it.

Comfortable CPAP Alternative
If you’ve tried CPAP and can’t tolerate it – or simply won’t use it – a custom oral appliance may be a clinically recommended alternative for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, in consultation with your physician.

Advanced Sleep Testing & Airway Evaluation
We use medical-grade sleep testing (often including at-home options) and precise digital acoustic airway measurements to accurately evaluate your condition and tailor treatment to you.

TMJ + Sleep Approach
Jaw pain, grinding, and sleep apnea often overlap. We look at the whole picture to help ease TMJ strain while improving your airway.

Do These Warning Signs Sound Familiar?

A couple in bed, the man is snoring, while the woman covers her ears.

You may have sleep apnea if you:
  • Snore
  • Stop breathing or gasp in your sleep (often noticed by a partner)
  • Wake feeling unrefreshed despite “sleeping” 7–8 hours
  • Battle headaches in the morning
  • Struggle with focus, memory, or mood
  • Get up multiple times at night to use the bathroom
  • Grind or clench your teeth while you sleep

If this list feels uncomfortably familiar, it’s time to get checked.

How Our Custom Oral Appliance Therapy Works

A custom oral appliance is a small device that fits over your teeth, gently positioning your jaw to help keep your airway open while you sleep. Keeping the jaw in the right place prevents your tongue from clogging the airway.

Benefits include:

  • No mask, no hose, no loud machine
  • Easy to travel with – fits in your pocket or carry-on
  • Simple to use – insert before bed, remove in the morning
  • High comfort and compliance for many patients who dislike CPAP

Oral appliances are a recognized treatment option for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and for most patients who can’t tolerate CPAP. Your physician and our team will work together to determine if this approach is right for you.

Sleep Apnea FAQs
  • Is snoring the same as sleep apnea?

No, not necessarily but it is definitely a warning sign of a developing sleep apnea condition. Generally speaking you should sound the same when you are asleep as when you are awake. Sleep apnea involves actual pauses in breathing. A sleep study is the best way to know what’s really happening.

  • Are oral appliances as effective as CPAP?

For many patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy can be a clinically supported alternative. Most people on CPAP’s on average take it off after 4 hours and suffer from suffocation the rest of the night.   We work closely with your physician to monitor results and make sure it is effective.

  • Will insurance help?

Medical insurance (not dental) may provide benefits for oral appliance therapy, depending on your plan and diagnosis. Our team can help you explore your coverage.

  • Can I stop CPAP if I get an oral appliance?

Never stop CPAP or change therapy without talking to your sleep physician and treating sleep apnea dentist. Many patients do transition under medical guidance; our role is to coordinate and support that process.

  • When will I feel better?

Some patients notice improvements in energy and symptoms within days to weeks of consistent use. We’ll track your progress and adjust as needed.
